Job Description

Position Purpose

As a Senior Manufacturing Safety Engineer at CHEP, you will take the lead in reviewing designs under development for future automation projects. You will provide guidance on integrating equipment safety applications to mitigate all human risks associated with industrial manufacturing applications. Leveraging your expertise in engineering and safety standards, you will drive innovation in product design, manufacturing processes, and quality assurance to ensure the highest level of safety and reliability while adhering to regional and CHEP equipment safety standards and specifications.

In this role you will be responsible for working with the global engineering teams and suppliers to ensure that all future automation equipment adheres to local/regional requirements as well as meets or exceeds all CHEP equipment safety standards. This role will be responsible to lead detailed technical reviews regarding safety requirements for all future equipment in development.

Major/Key Accountabilities

Lead design safety reviews of future automation in development including, safety guards, emergency systems, and hazard detection devices, ensuring compliance industry standards and regulations.

Collaborate with cross-functional global teams to optimize manufacturing processes for safety equipment production, improving efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness while maintaining high safety standards.

Develop and implement rigorous quality assurance protocols and testing procedures to ensure the reliability and effectiveness of safety around future automation equipment, conducting risk assessments, failure mode analyses, and validation tests.

Manage relationships with suppliers and vendors of safety equipment components and materials, ensuring timely delivery, quality assurance, and cost-effectiveness of sourced materials and components.

Lead new product introductions for new equipment pertaining to safety equipment products, from concept to commercialization, coordinating cross-functional teams and ensuring alignment during the development phase of the projects.

Provide technical support and training to internal teams, customers, and partners on safety equipment design, installation, operation, and maintenance, ensuring safe and proper use of equipment.

Stay abreast of relevant safety standards, regulations, and industry best practices, ensuring compliance with OSHA, ANSI, ISO, and other regulatory requirements in all aspects of safety equipment design and manufacturing.

Qualifications

Required:

Minimum Bachelor's or Master’s degree, in Mechanical or Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.

Experience

Proven experience (8-10 years) in manufacturing engineering, with a focus on safety equipment design and production.

Strong knowledge of safety standards and regulations, including OSHA, ANSI, ISO, and NFPA, and experience with safety equipment certification and compliance processes.

Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD, and experience with simulation and modelling tools for product design and analysis.

Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to develop innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges in safety equipment design and manufacturing.

Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

Experience working in a global or multinational environment, with exposure to diverse cultures and business practices.

Skills and Knowledge

Operations experience, supporting production in continuous improvement opportunity.

Effective Communication and Collaboration with multiple levels within the organization.

Certification in safety engineering or related field from recognized industry organizations.

Experience with Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies for manufacturing process optimization.

Knowledge of materials science, metallurgy, and surface treatment processes relevant to safety equipment manufacturing.

Familiarity with electromechanical systems, sensors, and automation technologies used in safety equipment design and functionality.

Experience working in a regulated industry such as aerospace, automotive, or supply chain, with a focus on safety-critical systems and equipment.

Familiar with project management methods and tools such as MS Project.
