POSITION SUMMARY: Encourage and foster independence in life skills and provide personal care assistance as needed. Provide therapeutic life enriching activities, interactions, and social support for older adults or young adults with development disabilities.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following represents the majority of the duties but is not meant to be all inclusive nor prevent other duties from being assigned, when necessary.

Provide individualized personal care and assistance with activities of daily living (i.e., feeding, transfers and ambulation, showering, toileting, hand washing, etc.).

Engage participants in structured activities, adjusting the activity according to interest and ability. Follow the daily schedule of activities. Run identified structured activities, engage participants in unstructured activities, find ways to engage participants that are isolated, engage all participants in meaningful interactions and encourage participation in activities.

Complete and maintain accurate records of the participants’ attendance, activity participation, nutritional intake (as required), health monitoring, and incidents.

Maintain a safe secure environment. Follow all body mechanics standards, ensuring that staff and participants remain injury free. Report all safety issues to the site manager and monitor the environment for the proper functioning of all equipment.

Work cooperatively with all staff and volunteers. Foster working relationships that facilitate team work, mentoring and a positive work environment.

Follow all ADS and LIFE policies and procedures and practice guidelines.

Follow the ADS attendance guidelines; attend staff meetings, in-services, training sessions and treatment team meetings, as scheduled.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum one year of experience as a CNA. Hold and maintain a current Oklahoma Long Term Care Aide certification. Upon hire, will obtain/maintain current certifications in: First Aid, CPR, and Tulsa County Food Handlers.

SKILLS: A genuine desire to work with older adults or developmentally disabled young adults. Possess good communication and interpersonal skills with older adults, caregivers and coworkers. Present a caring, friendly attitude with an outgoing personality.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift at least 50 lbs., push 200 lbs., and walk or stand 90% of the time, while working. Good hearing and vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The main work environment is an office setting of a non-profit organization providing a variety of services to seniors and their families. The activity level is high and the noise level is moderate. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
