The Roanoke College Office of Campus Safety’s 24-hour emergency operations and communications center (EOCC) is responsible for providing a secure environment for members of the Roanoke College community and visitors to the campus. The primary responsibility for dispatchers is to ensure the safety and well-being of the entire community. In order to address this responsibility, the EOCC acts as a central dispatch office for the Office of Campus Safety and after-hours main switchboard for the college. Works days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Key Responsibilities:
Ability to work in a stressful office environment performing multiple tasks during routine and emergency situations
Clearly and effectively communicate verbally and in writing
Use of base and portable radio equipment
Collaborate with Office of Campus Safety staff through the chain of command
Perform basic and advanced dispatching functions
Keep and track statistical data
Prepare reports and correspondence
Monitor alarms, Closed Circuit Television camera and maintain card access equipment
Maintain strict confidentiality of information
Liaison and communicate with city, state and federal agencies as needed
Perform other duties as assigned
Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:
High School Diploma or GED (minimally required)
One year working experience within a public safety field.
Preferred candidate will have dispatching experience in a college or university setting with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all segments of a college population.
Must be able to work independently, prioritize and exercise sound judgement.
Must be a team player and dependable.
Ability to work weekends and late night/early morning hours.
Maintain a customer service attitude
Microsoft Office and Windows-based computer proficiency
Ability to obtain appropriate public safety/law enforcement certifications
