The Market Analytics Specialist combines advanced modeling skills (statistical/Data/ML) with extensive market knowledge (complex environmental, policy, macro, and microeconomic factors) into actionable intelligence that ENMAX can use to gain strategic advantages and augmented financial outcomes.

This key member of our team will present complex concepts in a clear and concise manner, they work well under extreme pressure and tight timelines, and yield high-quality insights appropriate for all levels of ENMAX senior management.

Major responsibilities:

Develop periodic long term forecast outlooks for the Alberta electricity market using Aurora XMP and other production cost modeling software

Subject matter expert on key environmental policies and electricity market regulations

Become an expert on influential assumptions about future market behavior, bidding behavior, historical demand and price volatility dynamics, and supply and demand balance drivers.

Provide high-quality insights on ad-hoc analysis projects that usually require short turnarounds

Develop and maintain data science, predictive, and valuation models (both quantitative and qualitative), as well as tools and actionable forecasts to support trading, optimization, and decision-making activities.

Identify, quantify, validate and backtest commercial and trading alpha drivers and risks through scenario and sensitivity analysis

Create and maintain a proprietary view for the natural gas and electricity markets to provide internal clients with decision-making information, focusing on driving efficiency through automation of the reporting suite

Interpret data and research analysis, construct a cohesive narrative, and clearly communicate findings to senior leadership and other internal clients

Work with management to produce presentations for board meetings or other events as required

Collaborate with cross functional teams to identify, communicate, and develop solutions for wholesale business issues, processes, and operations

Own, maintain, and provide support to core daily processes that provide reporting and financial projections for ENMAX assets and market prices

Education required:

Degree in Engineering, Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, Finance or other related discipline from an accredited University

Qualifications and experience:

5 years related industry and technical experience is required

Strong understanding of competitive electricity market designs, production cost modeling, and capacity expansion

Broad knowledge and experience in power and natural gas markets

Proficiency with Python, Excel, SQL and VBA is required

Aurora XMP or other production cost modeling software experience required

Familiarity with SAS and R is an asset

Experience with Azure cloud platform and Databricks for analytics is an asset

A self-starter who is adaptive and detail oriented as well as tenacious, with an interest in the energy market, a passion for data analytics, and a drive to innovate and grow

Strong individual who can prioritize tasks based on potential commercial impacts, able to meet aggressive deadlines, manage conflicting interests and ever-changing priorities and stay focused

Yields high-quality insights appropriate for all levels of ENMAX senior management

Location: This role will be part of our hybrid (home and office) work force with office workspace located at ENMAX Place (141 - 50th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB). You will work from home on Mondays and Fridays and in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
