Nursing, Full-Time, Non-Tenure Track, Visiting Assistant Professor/Instructor

Position Overview:

Visiting faculty are employed by the university to teach or perform research for a limited time. This is a non-tenure track, temporary position. Service or research may be expected. Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities and defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook.

College/Department Overview

The College of Mathematics and Science currently has 135 full-time and over 70 part-time faculty in 6 academic departments and the School of Engineering. The College serves more than 3,000 undergraduate students in 29 majors and provides graduate programs in Biology, Computer Science, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, Applied Mathematical Science, Engineering Physics, and Nursing. Accreditation/Certification is held by ABET, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), the American Board of Funeral Service Education, and the American Chemical Society. Department Specific Essential Job Functions

Duties include classroom and clinical teaching of undergraduate and graduate nursing courses as assigned. Other responsibilities include scholarly/creative activities and service to the department, college, university, and profession. Possible areas of instruction include Foundations of Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Medical-Surgical Nursing, and High Acuity Nursing or other areas in which the candidate may have expertise and there is a need in the department. The candidate must be willing to teach courses in a variety of delivery formats (face-to-face, hybrid, and online) as needed. Other responsibilities include scholarly activities and service to the department, college, university, and profession.

Qualifications/Experience Preferred

Doctorate is preferred or current work towards an earned doctorate degree in Nursing or related area awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). **NOTE** If the doctorate is not obtained and submitted by the time of employment, the position rank will change to Visiting Instructor. Previous experience in nursing education and evaluating students in the clinical area is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Ability to work cooperatively with other faculty and staff members is necessary. Reports to the Chair of the Department and the Dean of the College.
