POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Provides support for Microsoft Hyper-V nodes, roles, and virtual infrastructure. Plans for high availability configurations. Builds and maintains virtual and physical servers to meet the district’s needs. Responds to system warnings, alerts, and errors, and diagnoses and resolves system problems.

Performs network backups and file restorations as required. Monitors backups ensuring the integrity of the data. Provides quality control reports of backup results. Coordinates with statewide and district teams for disaster recovery planning.

Configures network devices and implements changes to the network infrastructure. Enforces system standards. Monitors network performance and adjusts network equipment as necessary to provide optimum performance. Troubleshoots network problems and outages, schedules upgrades, and collaborates with network engineers for network optimization.

Performs Active Directory administration following current applicable standards and guidelines. Creates and manages user and service accounts. Creates and administers computer objects and accounts to join the domain. Controls access and authorization by creating and assigning members to the appropriate role. Follows provisioning policies to grant access to the Department’s managed resources. Implements and manages Group Policy infrastructure and troubleshoots policy application.

Provides technical assistance to the district’s GIS (Geographic Information System) and CADD (Computer Aided Design and Drafting) teams including assistance with their server software upgrades and SQL (Structured Query Language) server access.

Configures web applications and SharePoint site collections as a web and SharePoint Administrator. Maintains access to district SharePoint sites, lists, and libraries.

Generates and maintains technical documentation as assigned. Creates network topology diagrams for network segments, the routers connecting the segments, servers, gateways, and other major pieces of networking hardware. Documents server names, roles, and addresses. Documents changes such as application installations and modified security settings as required.

Maintains a secure environment and network infrastructure in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, and practices. Monitors network for security threats or unauthorized users. Analyzes security risks and develops response procedures. Ensures anti-spam and virus protection is in place. Implements, maintains, and monitors network intrusion prevention measures. Maintains security documentation as required.

Responds to security incidents as assigned. Captures additional event data and performs preliminary analysis to determine criticality. Escalates events if emergency response is determined necessary. Reviews and analyzes log data to determine nature and scope of incident. Uses detection tools for viruses, spyware, malware, and other threats to determine necessary mitigation and repair. Documents all steps taken and subsequent resolutions.

Monitors Service Desk queue and resolves support tickets as assigned. Documents work performed and resolution(s). Identify, analyze, and resolve problems and issues using troubleshooting tools and techniques as well as teamwork. Provides a high level of customer service by providing status and information to the customer.

Plans, organizes, manages, and tracks projects. Develops the project plan and schedule. Supports and informs project stakeholders and team. Identifies and mitigates project risks and conflicts. Tracks project progress and goals achieved.

Participates as a member of statewide teams, both internal and external to the Office of Information Technology. Provide facts to facilitate the team's decision-making process and to achieve the team's goals. Shares information and receives feedback from other Office of Information Technology staff as appropriate.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems, including printing, file systems, process monitoring, support techniques and diagnostic tools and software.

Basic knowledge of phone systems.

Knowledge of computer software, hardware, and firmware relative to servers, personal computers, local area network/wide area network environments.

Skilled at installing and providing technical support for software applications and operating systems.

Skilled at installing and testing computer hardware.

Ability to perform network backups and coordinate disaster recovery efforts.

Ability to plan, organize and track projects.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS:

This position will be subject to On-Call responsibilities in order to handle emergency situations or other unscheduled activities as needed. The incumbent of this position may also at times be required to adjust their normal work schedule in order to work during weekends, nights, or holidays to complete projects and other assignments or due to emergency conditions. Position will be required to carry a cell phone during On-Call periods.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or closely related field from an accredited college or university and 1 year of full time work experience in network support described as the installation, maintenance and technical support of network hardware, virtual servers, network software, backups and MS Active Directory.

OR an Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a closely related field and 2 years of experience as described above.

OR one or more certifications from a network training program such as CCNA/CCDP, MCSE/MCSA, MCP-Network, Network + and 3 years of experience as described above.

OR an Associate degree as described above and 3 or more years of hands on experience providing workstation hardware and software support.

OR 5 or more years of hands on experience providing any combination of workstation hardware, software or network support as described above.
