Job Description

COMPENSATION: Starting $25.89 - $32.55/hr

SHIFT: 10 Hour Night Shift (4 days/week)

On call weekend schedule

I.

Purpose: Performs all electrical installation and repair throughout the plant. Requires a minimum amount of supervision and instructions. Completes the assigned work in a craftsman-like manner.

II.

Duties

Install, connect, test, and maintain electrical systems for a variety of purposes, including climate control, security, and communications.

Install and maintain the electronic controls for machines in business and industry.

Work with blueprints during installation of electrical systems in factories, office buildings, and other structures.

Update blueprints to reflect improvements or upgrades to plant equipment.

Must follow the National Electric Code and comply with State and local building codes when installing these systems.

Use testing equipment, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to check the circuits for proper connections, ensuring electrical compatibility and safety of components.

Install coaxial or fiber optic cable and other telecommunications equipment.

Install telephone systems, perimeter lights, intercom systems, and fire alarm and security systems.

Connect motors to electrical power and install electronic controls for industrial equipment.

Repair motors, transformers, generators, and electronic controllers on machine tools and industrial equipment.

Periodically inspect equipment, and locate and correct problems before breakdowns occur. Includes the monthly work orders associated with preventative maintenance.

Replace items such as circuit breakers, fuses, switches, electrical and electronic components, or wire.

When working with complex electronic devices, they may work with engineers, engineering technicians, or industrial machinery installation, repair, and maintenance workers.

Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, knives, and hacksaws. They also use power tools, conduit bender, and testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, ammeters, and test lamps.

Perform all job duties with safe work practices.

All Good Manufacturing Practices must be followed.

Knows and maintains their role in Food Safety.

Requirements

Must be able to perform the duties stated above with minimal supervision.

Must provide own personal hand tools.

Must complete Electrical Technician training syllabus for this position in the appropriate time.

Must be willing to work overtime as needed.

Must follow electrical safety policies and procedures at all times.

May work nights or weekends, be on call, and willing to provide vacation relief when necessary.

High school courses in mathematics, electricity, electronics, mechanical drawing, science, and shop provide a good background.

A background in electronics is increasingly important because of the growing use of complex electronic controls on manufacturing equipment. Therefore, special training offered by postsecondary technical schools or equivalent experience is required.

Responsible for maintaining plant electrical equipment.

Responsible for installation of electrical equipment per NEC guidelines.

Responsible for completing the monthly checks associated with the electrical group.

Physical Requirements

(Occasionally: 1 to 33%; frequently: 34 to 66%; continuously: 67 to 100%)

Strength: Heavy work exerting up to 80 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Climbing: Job requires frequent ascending and descending steps of work platform, ladder, or scaffolding to work on equipment. Standing/walking: Job requires continuous standing and frequent walking; opportunity to sit on breaks. Bending/stooping/kneeling/crouching: Job requires frequent bending body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist; and occasional crouching. Reaching: Job requires occasionally extending hands and arms in any direction. Push/pulling: Job requires frequent use of upper extremities to press against objects with steady force, and frequent use of upper extremities to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. Lifting: Job requires frequent lifting of objects up to 80# from a lower to a higher position and moving objects horizontally from position to position. Grasping/fingering/feeling: Job requires frequent grasping of objects by applying pressure with the fingers and palm. Talking/hearing: Job requires frequently talking and hearing for the purpose of receiving instructions and hearing is also necessary to make discrimination in sound when making adjustments. Repetitive motions: Job requires frequent substantial movements of the wrist, hands and fingers. Visual acuity: Continuous visual inspection is required involving small defects, machine operation and use of measurement devices. Must have good vision, either naturally or corrected, be able to see subtle color differences and details in order to check electrical wire colors, warning labels, and components. Reads/Write: Frequent reading and writing in order to check electrical prints, complete work order tickets, perform LOTO procedure, and insure compliance with procedures. PPE: Must be able to wear hearing protection, steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, FR clothing, and gloves. Must be able to work in dusty, dirty, hot, or wet conditions, or in confined areas, or other uncomfortable places.

VII.

Physical/Environmental Work Conditions

The job subjects the employee to the following conditions:

Inside and outside weather conditions. Noise: greater than 85 decibels on a time weighted average. Hazards: including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts. Atmospheric conditions that may affect the respiratory system or the skin such as fumes, odors, dusts or mists, although local ventilation is provided. Extreme heat: temperatures above 100 for periods of more than one hour during hot weather periods.
