Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Cost Estimator to work on our Cost Estimating team. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off.

The Cost Estimating Department provides certified cost estimators to support projects and programs to align with industry and DOE requirements, practices and techniques contributing to the successful mission of the INL. The cost estimating team provides accurate, unbiased, and realistic cost estimates to enable our customers to make informed decisions.

Responsibilities Include:·

Work with construction quantity takeoffs from non-documented sources, work breakdown structures, engineering drawings, specifications, and sketches.

Provide complete understanding and application of cost estimating principles, concepts, and practices. Demonstrates general cost estimating knowledge and techniques to aid in the preparation and development of complex, multi-disciplined, and detailed cost estimates.

Utilize general knowledge of theory, principles and practices related to research and development scoping, engineering and construction practices and methodology, mechanical and electrical systems, project management and project administration activities, subcontract administration, design activities, inspection criteria, escalation, inflation, risk assessment, and contingency application. Projects are of diverse scope, which may include but not limited to typical engineering, construction, research and development (R&D), and D&D. Responsible for costing identified scope specific to change orders on current contracts, to providing Total Project Cost and necessary documentation on projects from pre-conceptual to Final Design/Approved for Construction (AFC) stage.

Consult with customers, vendors, functional organizations, project management, and construction management to prepare and compile estimate documentation for submittal.

Interact with senior personnel on matters requiring coordination across organizational lines. Enhances technical/professional skills through interaction/training from SMEs within the cost estimating organization and other internal/external organizational contacts.

Lead small to moderate in scope cost estimates and assist Senior Cost Estimators on major cost estimating tasks.

Works with cost estimating subject matter experts (SME) and senior estimators throughout the cost estimating process in applying cost estimating tools and techniques, systems, and equipment.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in construction field of practice or related and 2-5+ years of experience OR 8-11+ years of related experience

Must have general knowledge of engineering, construction, and "decommission and demolition" to perform cost estimates on projects.

Understand the Association of the Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE) international recommended practices.

Job Information:

The pay range for this position is: Level 2 ($63,528 - 130,284) / Level 3 ($75,804 - 155,496). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
