This exciting opportunity in our Communications and Engagement team has become available for a Manager Communications and Engagement on a permanent full-time basis.

Reporting to the Director Business Improvement, the successful applicant will lead and provide strategic direction in the delivery of high-quality communications and community engagement services consistent with the City's strategic objectives; provide strategic media, communications and stakeholder engagement advice to the Mayor, CEO and internal stakeholders; Contribute to the management and leadership of the directorate and foster a high performing culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

The key responsibilities of this role:

Oversee the effective planning, management and service delivery of the branch with a client and customer service focus to ensure the branch contributes to the achievement of the City's strategic objectives.

Manage the development of authentic and engaging content and communications strategies to build audiences and inform the community about local government project, services, facilities, and events.

Identify new strategies and initiatives to foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Develop solutions to emerging challenges in a cost effective and sustainable manner, ensuring the City is leveraging opportunities and implementing best practice policies, protocols, and procedures.

Ensure high standards of human resources and financial management are practiced within the branch and contribute to the promotion of a safe working environment within the organisation.

Provide issues management and support, identify emerging issues/risks and their implications, and provide solutions and responses to ensure effective resolution with minimal risk to the organisation.

Provide professional media and communications advice and support to the Mayor, CEO and Executive on current and emerging topics.

Maintain effective media relationships and an understanding and awareness of current affairs with a particular focus on local government issues.

As a member of the management team, assist with the strategic development and management of the directorate and the City.

Ensure that the City's interests are promoted and represented to stakeholders, State and Commonwealth Government and other organisations.

To be successful in this role you will have:

Highly-developed leadership, team building and human resource management skills.

Excellent organisational and project management skills and ability to meet deadlines.

Significant demonstrated experience in developing and executing communication strategies and plans.

Significant demonstrated experience managing proactive and reactive media and briefing executive and internal stakeholders on media matters.

Significant demonstrated experience in public relations and issues management.

An understanding of IAP2 community engagement principles.

High level research and problem-solving skills.

Highly developed and proven interpersonal, relationship building and influencing skills with an ability to build collaborative relationships.

Proactive approach in resolving problems and issues.

Relevant tertiary qualification and/or equivalent experience in a media/communications/public relations role.

Salary Range: $132,000 - $148,530 per annum plus a car allowance of $12,500 per annum. 11% employer superannuation and additional co-contribution to your superannuation is also included
