The Lifeguard position supports the work of the YMCA of Collier County, Inc., a leading not-for-profit organization committed to strengthening the communities in Collier County through its core focus areas of Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. Lifeguard in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes people of all skill and fitness levels. This position effectively builds community and modifies as needed to meet varied health, ability, and cultural needs. Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area.

Maintains effective relationships with the members, participants, and other staff.

Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.

Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed.

Check the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum age 16 years old.

Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid Certification

Current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding certification.

Ability to maintain certification level of physical and mental readiness.

Ability to pass lifeguard water test.

Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA/Red Cross standards.

Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Must be able to meet the Association’s background screening requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to remain alert.

Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.

Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.

Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision.

Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

Completion of YMCA Child Sexual Abuse Prevention and Appropriate Touch classes

Completion of the YMCA’s Blood Borne Pathogens training

Completion of the Social Media & Digital Communications class

Completion of the YMCA’s Safe Lifting training
