Associate Financial Analyst, Japan

About the Role

We are looking for an Associate Financial Analyst to join our growing global financial department helping to support a new business in the rapidly developing renewable energy market in Japan. This role will join a team of professionals working to maintain order and transparency for the company’s finances. As an Associate-level position, this role is an ideal opportunity for someone at the start of their career looking to apply academic knowledge into a commercial working environment.

This role will be based in our Tokyo office (Nishi-Shinjuku). This will be a full-time role with a structured training period to up-skill this individual before fully embedding within our accounting team. This person should expect the opportunity to learn, and the support to deliver, the following responsibilities from day one:

Assisting in the onboarding of new counterparties by ensuring all static data is correct in our trading system.

Reconciling and settling monthly renewable PPA (Power Purchase Agreement), OTC and Exchange Traded contracts.

Checking and matching trade confirmations in support of our Japanese Power Desk.

Prepare weekly and monthly cash reconciliations for local bank accounts.

Acting as a key point of contact for Compliance, with the aim of ensuring that the team is performing all required regulatory tasks.

Assist Accounts Payable for Local payments.

Monitor and manage our cash requirements for our exchange traded activity.

Be a key contact between Trailstone and our domestic banking partners.

Assist management of domestic and international payments for the Japanese business.

Work as a key link between front office origination and Trading and the CFO function outside of Japan

Assist the General Manager in Japan.

In time, we also expect this individual to attain and develop the following knowledge and experience, in the pursuit of true career progression:

Knowledge of the inner workings of operational finance within a merchant trading house.

On the job training within renewables commodity markets.

Become a well-rounded finance professional

About You

This person will be at the beginning of their accounting career, looking to apply their academic knowledge and gain international accounting experience within a dynamic commercial environment.

In addition, we are looking for somebody who…

Has completed a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fields.

Fluent in both written and spoken language skills in Japanese and English, is essential.

Is comfortable using MS Office Applications; e.g., Excel which will be used daily in this role.

Has excellent organisational abilities and willing to manage large sets of financial data.

Is good with numbers and figures, with high analytical acumen.

Has the desire to learn and grow professionally; able to balance the initiative required for autonomous working and accountability needed for continued learning.
