Fermentation Associate Engineer/Scientist - Wilmington, DE

This Microbial Physiologist/Fermentation position will join the Health and Biosciences business division (formerly DuPont). He/she will be one of the key members in microbial product development, at the junction between discovery and manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct and support fermentation experiments at various scales, from lab to pilot plant, ensuring aseptic technique and process integrity.

Monitor and analyze fermentation processes, including media preparation, inoculation, and preparation for downstream processing.

Work independently to conduct experiments and advance projects.

Troubleshoot problems when they occur.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to troubleshoot and optimize fermentation processes for improved yield, quality, and process robustness.

Assist in high-throughput screening and the scale-up of fermentation processes from lab to manufacturing scale.

Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments and outcomes.

Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines, particularly in handling microorganisms and operating fermentation equipment.

Apply the scientific method or engineering design process and basic statistics.

Modify communication appropriately to internal audiences and give effective presentations.

Be flexible to work on an agile team in a dynamic environment.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant Engineering or Biosciences disciplines with 0-1 years of industrial experience in fermentation

OR

Master’s degree in relevant Biosciences disciplines

Self-starter with good organizational skills and attention to detail

Skills in data analysis, including statistics

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Strong team player

Some travel required

Position located in Wilmington, DE

Preferred Skills:

Hands on experience operating fermentors at lab scale

Microbial physiology skills

Experience applying design of experiments and statistical analyses

High-throughput screening skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Suite applications and any programming language (ex. Python, Java, SQL)

Automation & process control experience is a plus

Knowledge of cGMP practices and experience in a biomanufacturing setting
