Job Purpose

The Buyer/Planner manages purchasing, materials requirements planning, supplier relationship management, product life cycle and service design, among other things. It is the responsibility of the Buyer/Planner to ensure material availability to support the production schedule

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain MRP systems applicable to the purchasing and production planning activities required for supplier delivery planning, and work order management, including capacity planning.

Analyze requirements from the MRP and place purchase orders timely, to ensure materials availability.

Schedule, release, monitor and close work orders to ensure production goals are achieved to meet supplier delivery requirements, in the most efficient manner.

Maintain materials inventory, production reports including status, location and flow of materials within the MRP system.

Monitor and execute MRP action messages to expedite, de-expedite, and release new Purchase Orders when necessary.

Track and communicate material and WIP status to essential personnel.

Provide solutions relating to purchase orders, including over-shipments, missed shipments, and procedural issues to assure required materials are delivered on time as needed, at the best cost, and to maintain inventory as low as possible.

Monitor forecasts to address necessary changes to material needs or production planning.

Manage sourcing to achieve safety, quality, delivery and cost targets.

Contact suppliers to schedule or expedite deliveries and to resolve shortages, missed or late deliveries, and other problems.

Meet with suppliers to discuss performance metrics, and any production or forecast changes.

Responsible for key process indicators and managing improvements.

Study market prices and trends, engineering developments, and manufacturing method improvements applicable to business products and advise company on potential opportunities to optimize costing, production, or customer fulfillment.

Education, Knowledge and Skills

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Business, Materials or Engineering.

Minimum three years of experience with Supply Chain disciplines, including Purchasing, Planning, and Scheduling.

Demonstrated proficiency in MRP/ERP systems.

Solid knowledge of supply chain processes including manufacturing and demand planning.

Strong financial, statistical and analytical skills.

Experience developing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures and Work Standards.

Results oriented, organized, attention to detail, problem solver.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Products, including Word and Excel.

Ability to represent the company with professionalism and integrity in all matters.

Experience with Syteline a plus.

APICS, CPIM, Lean Manufacturing a plus

Work Environment:

Manufacturing and office environment. Exposure to noise, fumes, and dust, while in the manufacturing facility.

Physical Demands:

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard, and to verbally communicate to exchange information. The noise level in the work environment is usually quite in office settings and moderate to loud in other situations, with both constant and sudden loud noises possible. Works indoors most of the time. Works somewhat close to other people, such as when sharing office space.
