The Diabetes, Obesity and Complications Therapeutic Area (DOCTA) of Eli Lilly and Company, focuses on the discovery of biologic, small molecule, and genetic therapeutics for the treatment of diabetes, obesity, and associated complications. We are seeking a skilled, motivated, and versatile individual who can help to build a highly collaborative, successful drug discovery and development team in the Obesity research group in Boston. The successful candidate will use a strong background in cell culture and cell-based functional assays to play a critical role in supporting end-to-end discovery efforts and established pipeline projects with an emphasis on anti-obesity therapeutics. The candidate would support assay development and conduct established assays to validate new targets and characterize the in vitro function of novel therapeutics. The candidate will be responsible for setting up critical capabilities in the laboratory setting and working with other scientists within and across departments to achieve project and department goals.

Key position requirements/responsibilities include:

Technical/scientific skills. Expertise in the following is a must-have:

Aseptic cell culture techniques with mammalian cells, transient transfections and generation of stable cell lines.

Development of functional cell-based functional assays and screening of novel therapeutics in 96-/384-well plate formats.

Knowledge of basic pharmacology (e.g. determination of binding affinity, potency and in vitro efficacy).

Experience with colorimetric, luminescence and fluorescence-based readouts.

Proficient in operating liquid handling robots and automating assays.

Gene expression studies by qPCR, western blot and FACS techniques.

Soft skills:

Proficient oral and written communication skills and ability to work both independently and in teams.

Requirement for accurate record keeping and independent data analysis. Will perform work in full compliance with Lilly Research Policies and complete all required training activities in the timeframe specified.

Attention to detail and ability to prioritize work on multiple projects, timelines and company goals.

Eager to grasp fundamental principles, swiftly acquire new abilities, and adjust to novel challenges.

Minimum qualifications:

B.S. and/or M.S. in Biology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry or related field

Additional 5+ years of laboratory experience

Additional Skills/Preferences

Experience/expertise with the following is a plus:

Working with native cell lines and primary cultures.

Exposure to multiple therapeutic target classes and modalities.

Working knowledge or background in cardiometabolic diseases
