The final salary will depend on the candidate's qualifications. Those with 8 years or more of required experience can expect offers up to the midpoint of the salary range. Metra provides full pay ranges so candidates can consider their growth potential.

Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America, serving Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane, and McHenry Counties. The agency is linking communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe, reliable, and efficient commuter service.

Financial Affairs is headed by the Chief Financial Officer and divided into four groups: Treasury; Accounting, Budget and Management Analysis and Business Efficiency & Process Improvement. The core mission of these groups is to provide accurate financial information so that Metra can run its business efficiently. Together these departments employ approximately 100 people.

Under direction, functions as first level supervisor overseeing the day-to-day activities of professional and clerical accounting staff, assisting the manager with the production of financial reports, implementing accounting policies and procedures, and performing special projects and related duties as required. Assign, supervise, and review the work of professional and clerical staff engaged in performing accounting functions. Review and process for final approval transactions, requisitions, refunds, bank deposits, and financial statements and supervises the preparation of reports. Analyze accounts to ensure entries are appropriately authorized and allocated, comply with contract agreements, and are in accordance with Metra, federal, and grant procedures. Monitor account balances for availability of cash flow and approves actions to meet financial obligations. Resolve complex accounting issues, supervise account reconciliations and close outs, and oversee the collection of information for audits. Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline.

In addition to 1. above, must have four (4) years of professional accounting experience.

Comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.

Considerable knowledge of mathematical principles and applications.

Considerable knowledge of internal controls.

Considerable knowledge of applicable computer software applications.

Basic knowledge of supervisory and management principles.

Strong organizational skills.

Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Excel.

Good interpersonal skills.

Good oral and written communication skills.

Ability to work in a detailed oriented fast paced environment.

Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment and handle sensitive and confidential information with tact and courtesy.

Ability to interact with individuals of all levels both within and outside of the organization.
