Duties

This position is located in the Division of Dam Safety Inspection, New York Regional Office in the Office of Energy Projects.

As a Senior Civil Engineer, some of your typical work assignments may include:

Serving as a civil engineering technical authority, team leader, and team member responsible for conducting inspections and developing, coordinating, and reviewing engineering analysis related to the Commission's dam safety program.

Preparing and reviewing complex engineering reports related to hydroelectric projects.

Meeting with licensees, applicants, Federal and state agency staff, and engineering consultants to discuss difficult and complex engineering design and operating matters related to jurisdictional hydropower projects.

In addition to the education required for this position, you must have one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 level. Specialized experience is defined as: Independently applying one or more of the following disciplines of civil engineering: structural, hydrologic, hydraulic, geotechnical, or engineering geology to the investigation, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of hydropower facilities or dams.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including any volunteer experience.
