Summary

This position serves as a Litigation Support Specialist located in the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), National Security Division (NSD), Executive Office (EO), Information Technology Management (ITM) Staff, Litigation Technology Support Services (LTSS) Team in Washington DC. The mission of the NSD is to coordinate the Department's efforts in carrying out its core mission of combatting terrorism and protecting national security.

The primary purpose of the Litigation Support Specialist position is to provide a combination of administrative, legal, and information systems management services to the NSD.

The duties and responsibilities for a Litigation Support Specialist at full performance level generally include, but are not limited to, the following:

Provide extensive coordination with attorneys and other legal support areas to include planning and conducting difficult and complex studies, reviews, and evaluations related to electronic evidence and litigation data.

Apply and adapt concepts, methods, and procedures to carry out project development and documentation activities for litigation support functions.

Ensure information systems related to investigations and prosecutions are in compliance with Federal and DOJ rules, regulations, and policies.

Provide assistance to case staff in the electronic processing of documents, document image conversion, load file creation and editing, and the monitoring of progress in data collection and computer entry efforts.

Provide information systems support for case administration, litigation, and statistical analysis.

Implement, participate in and evaluate the results of litigation support programs, projects, cases or processes, and manages related resources, personnel, and activities to successful completion.

Partner with other relevant NSD and DOJ stakeholders to initiate, coordinate, and ensure proactive and timely resolution of each action requested by NSD staff.

Perform regular and recurring training sessions for attorneys, paralegals, and other support staff in the operation of various support procedures and software applications.

Resolve complex/difficult problems encountered or referred from others within the office, and analyzes situations presented and issues involved.

You must be a United States Citizen or National.

You will be required to complete a pre-employment security investigation and background check which includes a drug screening.

You may be required to complete a one-year probationary or two-year trial period.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Litigation Support Specialist at (GS-0301-11/12/13), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade you're applying to.

If you are a current or former government employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade. Additionally, please ensure to submit an applicable SF50 (please refer to the "required documents" section for additional information).

To Qualify for the Litigation Support Specialist GS-0301-11, you must have at least one of the following:

A. Your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector using eLitigation applications supporting attorneys.

-OR-

B. Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.M., if related.

-OR-

C. Some specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and have more than two years but less than three years of education as described in B. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the second year by 36. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify).

To Qualify for the Litigation Support Specialist GS-0301-12, your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector using eLitigation applications to process documents and uploading documents to eLitigation database applications in support to attorneys.

To Qualify for the Litigation Support Specialist GS-0301-13, your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector using eLitigation applications to independently process complex document types and performing higher end administrator functions within eLitigation database applications in support of attorneys.
