Summary

This position is located at Bureau of Engraving and Printing, within the Facilities Support Services Division. As a Carpenter, you will perform general carpentry work Involved In the construction, alteration, repair and maintenance of the Bureau's buildings, and do cabinet work such as designing, making, and repairing office furniture, equipment, and display cases. You will also design, construct, alter, and repair specialty trucks, carts and tables for production areas.

Duties

As a Carpenter, you will:

Build scaffolding by cutting timbers to necessary lengths, assembling, and nailing cross braces to vertical supports, and nailing planks to form platforms and walkways. Also includes the assembling of metal scaffolding around machinery in printing sections and also constructing scaffolding for other trades.

Construct wooden forms for pouring concrete walks, press foundations, Vault walls, and floors. This process includes bracing forms and straightening and leveling forms with a string line or using a laser level.

Construct new or relocate old room partitions and install the necessary bracing. Also disassembles and relocates systems furniture.

Make and install new or repairs old window sashes, window frames, doors, door frames, window and door trim, and other interior and exterior trim and finished work.

Work requires extensive walking, kneeling, stooping, lifting, pulling, and climbing as the job demands.

Must be able to work from scaffolds and ladders in cramped positions and small spaces.

The facility typically shuts down annually between Christmas and New Year's Day. As such, all BEP employees must take leave for work days during the shutdown period. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, three-shift basis. Assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be available to work on all three shifts on a rotational basis.

Weekend work and overtime, if applicable, will be scheduled when needed based on production requirements as determined by Management.
