We are currently searching for an experienced Machine Shop Cell Lead on first shift (7:00 AM to 3:30 PM) to join our Jacksonville, FL team.

The Machine Shop Cell Lead/Machinist III works under the general direction of the Production Supervisor with limited supervision. Sets up and operates conventional, special-purpose and numerical control machines and machining centers such as mills, lathes, chuckers and honing machines to make metal parts to exacting tolerances and dimensions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Leads Machine Shop in daily operations which includes but are not limited to: production planning and control, manufacturing priorities, coordination of activities with cross-functional team members, managing administrative duties, etc.

Accountable for attaining metrics, targets and trends for key parameters of assigned areas of responsibility.

Establishes and maintains effective communication among functional departments and management to facilitate early problem identification, slippages, scrap, etc., recommending corrective actions, and works closely with cell leaders to ensure timely resolution.

Perform series of machining operations, such as: turning, boring, threading and facing on sheet metal pieces on castings, forgings, bar and plate stock.

Interprets complicated blueprints, sketches, specifications, geometrical dimensions and tolerances. Solves problems relative to work-holding arrangement, unusual materials, machine setting, tools, product specifications and fabrication methods for production process. Determines sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup. Selects, mounts, and aligns various specialized machine attachments and standard or improvised tooling.

May perform intricate and complicated hand grinding operations such as, trimming parts, polishing surfaces, scratches, pits, and blending metal parts to exact tolerances and dimensions.

Plans sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup. Measures, marks and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides. Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth/angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.

Uses a variety of machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring instruments. Perform first piece OAP inspection and verifies quality in accordance with SOP.

Follows all safety regulations and exercises care in handling parts and operating machinery.

Participates in cell or fabrication projects and assist with process improvements, methods, solutions and procedures to enhance program quality, cost and scheduling.

Achieves continuous improvement targets while leading project efforts within assigned areas of responsibility to attain the facility’s vision of cellular manufacturing within a lean enterprise.

Coordinates with Facilities to ensure that machine maintenance schedules, operator TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) and equipment servicing results in minimum equipment downtime.

Provides coaching, guidance, and training to staff to maintain critical skills and support a highly cross-trained employee population.

Represents unit as technical and operational subject matter expert in functional leadership capacity.

Qualifications

Proven competency in a team leader role for 2+ years, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

Thorough knowledge of manufacturing processes and technology, information systems, and general business practices.

Strong interpersonal skills to influence decision making with or without authority, facilitate groups with diverse perspectives and bring teams to agreement.

Ability to interpret complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables.

Must have advanced skills knowledge in order to interpret data and measuring devices

Proficient with the use of various types of precision measuring instruments.

Capable of making minor modifications to NC/CNC equipment programs.

Able to use a personal computer to input data.

High School diploma or GED as well as additional instruction equivalent to 3 years of applied training in a particular or specialized occupation required.

Minimum of 5 years experience required.
