The NRG Oncology Biospecimen Bank, located on the Mt Zion campus of the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), seeks a qualified and motivated Research Compliance Analyst to join the team. Funded through a competitive U24 award from the NCI, the NRG Oncology Biospecimen bank is an integral part of NCI sponsored NCTN phase 2 and 3 clinical cancer program supporting clinical trials in head and neck, brain, prostate, lung, breast, GI and other cancers. The NRG Oncology Biospecimen Bank has collected, stores, and manages over 800,000 biospecimens from patients enrolled on late-stage therapeutics trials. ( This is an excellent opportunity for someone seeking to contribute to oncology clinical trials and advance one’s protocol development and regulatory skills.

The Research Compliance Analyst will report to the NRG Oncology Biospecimen Bank Associate Director and / or Director(s). This is a professional entry level position with limited prior experience. The Research Compliance Analyst will develop professional concepts to resolve biobanking problems with guidance from supervisor. The Research Compliance Analyst will assist in writing and maintaining internal standard operating procedures, ensure records of NRG clinical trial protocols and lab manuals are up to date, and review and / or analyze data sets as directed by supervisor.

The overall purpose of this position is to ensure bank continuity by assisting Associate Director in protocol maintenance, ensuring lab is within regulation, and assisting with maintaining the NRG Oncology Biospecimen Bank’s database(s).

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $50,700 - $107,500 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Department of Radiation Oncology, School of Medicine (SOM), is responsible for a broad range of patient care, teaching, research and public service responsibilities. The Department provides medical students, residents, and post-doctoral fellows in the School of Medicine with programs in research, patient care, teaching and public service. The Department is comprised of three locations including Mt. Zion, Parnassus and Mission Bay and consists of 33 full-time faculty, eight researchers, 13 clinical residents and three physics residents. These operations are administered through various dispersed, interdependent sub-units, which are coordinated through a centralized Administrative Core.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Minimum 1+ years of related experience.

Experience with Aperio digital slide scanner and/or digital pathology.

Database experience, including biospecimen banking or other Lab Information Management Systems (LIMS).

Human subjects, and animal care and use: academic training in the biological or social sciences, humanities or bioethics.

Practical knowledge of basic clinical research and basic medical terminology.

Basic knowledge of relevant federal, state, organizational and system policies.

Excellent writing and oral communication skills (clarity, sentence / paragraph construction and grammar, et cetera).

Skills in problem solving, multi-tasking, working with frequent interruptions, and is an effective listener.

Proficiency with office equipment and knowledge of standard office software.

Familiarity with internet searching.

Attention to detail.

Background in biospecimen banking and clinical trials.

Ability to read and comprehend complex materials.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Federal Express online shipping.

Background in histology and molecular pathology research.

Demonstrated ability and desire to learn; curiosity around the research activities in which they are involved.

Excellent computer and IT skills including use of Microsoft Office: Microsoft Excel- pivot tables and basic formulas, Microsoft Word, and Outlook; Adobe Acrobat.

License/Certification

Valid California Driver license and access to a vehicle and/or ability to navigate efficiently from one site/lab to another.
