Health, Environment, Safety and Sustainability (HESS) Manager Department: Operations Employment Type: Full-Time Minimum Experience: Manager/Supervisor JOB TITLE: Health, Environment, Safety and Sustainability (HESS) Manager COMPANY: Carnival Grand Bahama Investments Limited (CGBIL), a subsidiary of Carnival Corporation & plc REPORTS TO: Operations Manager, Celebration Key LOCATION: Grand Bahama, The Bahamas Job Summary: The Health, Environment, Safety and Sustainability (HESS) Manager plays a vital role in the development, sustainability, and growth of Celebration Key by ensuring all departments are following the corporate and local regulations, policies and procedures related to safety, the environment and health.

The Health, Environment, Safety and Sustainability (HESS) Manager is responsible for identifying, preventing, monitoring, detecting, resolving, and advising of all health, safety, environmental and sustainability matters.

The Health, Environment, Safety and Sustainability (HESS) Manager is responsible for reviewing existing policies and procedures and creating policies and procedures to guarantee compliance with all local HESS legal and corporate regulations.

This position will report to the Operations Manager, Celebration Key.

This position will have responsibility at Celebration Key but will be part of the broader Carnival Corporation Global Ports and Destinations Development (GPDD). GPDD is responsible for the development and operations of our six existing Carnival-owned destinations in the Caribbean: Grand Turk (Turks and Caicos), Mahogany Bay (Roatan, Honduras), Puerta Maya (Cozumel, Mexico), Amber Cove (Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic), Half Moon Cay (Little San Salvador, The Bahamas), and Princess Cays (Eleuthera, The Bahamas). GPDD is also responsible for the development and operations of Celebration Key, expected to open in July 2025.

The 6 existing destinations are expected to welcome more than 6 million visitors in 2024, with that number expected to grow significantly once Celebration Key is opened, and they include a variety of world-leading amenities such as: pristine beaches, pools, swim-up bars, water activities, food and beverage, retail, and cultural exhibits.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The HESS Manager is responsible for, but not limited to the following: Operation and Team Management Identify and assess health, occupational safety, and environmental risks to implement measures to mitigate them and prevent incidents.

Document the process operation of potable water treating systems (including Seawater Reverse Osmosis Systems), wastewater treatment systems, irrigation systems (with reused and potable water), the deep injection well, and recreational water facilities (Water Amenities) by monitoring systematically their quality and performance standards as well as implementing immediate corrective measures if required.

Monitor and document the solid waste collection and processing system, including recycling and other waste management processes implemented in the facility.

Monitor and document the integrated pest management system.

Conduct routine checks and recommend training to ensure all HESS policies and procedures are being adhered to.

Receive, record, and channel employee concerns, suggestions, complaints, and other reports regarding sustainability, safety, health, environment, or quality.

Oversee the scheduling, rotations, and projects of the HESS Department.

Schedule and assign tasks for assigned staff members and conduct bi-annual performance evaluations.

Facilitate all relevant inspections and audits.

Compliance & Quality Control Monitor the performance of quality management, health, occupational safety, and environmental systems to identify timely improvements to the organization's processes.

Design, implement, review, and provide recommendations for all health, safety, sustainability and environmental policies and procedures.

Monitor all operational processes to ensure the company follows all legal and corporate regulations regarding sustainability, workplace safety, health and environment, and ethical standards.

Remain updated on professional knowledge by participating in continuous self-development.

Create internal audits controls and monitor adherence to them.

Liaise with vendors and security firm on safety regulations, procedures, and policies.

Annually, liaise with the General Manager or designee, Operations Manager, and corporate advisors to review, provide recommendations, and update the site’s HESS procedures.

Reporting & Maintenance Oversee the community service program.

Collaborate with the Human Resources Department to create health, environment, safety and sustainability (HESS) policies and procedures as needed.

Develop and maintain emergency and contingency plans, in collaboration with the security department, for situations such as safety incidents, spills, fires, and other natural emergencies.

Audit food and beverage processing, handling, and sales operations within the port to ensure compliance with established health standards.

Provide monthly departmental reports on assignments, projects, departmental needs, and accomplishments.

Liaise with the General Manager or designee, Operations Manager or designee to create annual fiscal plan.

Any other duties assigned by Senior Management.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS: ISPS Training.

CPO certification a plus.

Must obtain certification within six months of employment.

Strong leadership skills with experience in staff management and development.

Excellent financial management skills, including budgeting and reporting.

Exceptional customer service and communication skills.

Knowledge of health, safety, and sanitation regulations relevant to food service and retail.

Experience in a cruise or resort environment is highly desirable.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and POS systems.

Fluency in conversational English.

SKILLS & SPECIFICATIONS: Strong Microsoft office suite skills.

Strong understanding of technical operations.

Hands-on experience leading preventive maintenance efforts, asset management, failure mode and effects analysis.

Excellent leadership, analytical, time-management, problem-solving project management, organizational and people management skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, attention to details and customer service skills.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with employees and guests.

Ability to read and write English to understand and interpret written procedures.

This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, managers, and co-workers.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically fit.

Must have strong customer service skills.

Ability to work in an outdoor environment.

Ability to multi-task and think critically.

Previous work experience preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Fast-paced, dynamic environment with a need for flexibility in working hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.

May be requested to work a different shift.
