Fahrenheit Advisors is assisting our client, The Longwood University Foundation, in the search for a Staff Accountant. This role is responsible for assisting the Senior Accountant and Controller with accounting functions including the timely delivery of accounting services, ensuring fiscal responsibility on all levels, maintaining the general ledger, financial reporting, and cash receipts and disbursements.
In addition, the Staff Accountant is also responsible for working with the University staff and faculty in the scholarship awarding and reporting process. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to work for an organization that changes people’s lives through scholarship awards.
This role is primarily remote but requires the ability to travel to Longwood University several times per month as needed for meetings. We are looking for someone to begin this role after the new year, with an official start date of January 6, 2025.
Responsibilities:
Timely delivery of accounting services including preparing month-end journal entries and performing balance sheet and income statement reconciliations
Maintain the general ledger, financial reporting, and cash receipts and disbursements
Ensure that balance sheet accounts are reconciled in time for month-end close, and cash receipts are coded accurately and processed
Assist the Senior Accountant with preparation for tax, audit and regulatory reporting
Review and post transactions
Record gain or loss on stock gifts, cash receipts, mitigation banking sales entries and fixed asset entries
Assist in preparation of monthly financial and investment reports for management
Manage scholarship award process and work with University staff and faculty to award scholarships
Requirements:
BS in accounting or related business degree
2-5 years’ experience in an accounting role with increasing responsibility
Must be a results-oriented professional with the ability to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness of financial data
Focus on customer service and the ability to work in a team environment with stakeholders across the organization
Self-starter with a strong work ethic
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to change in a positive manner
This full-time position permits hybrid-remote work, but must accommodate a flexible schedule in order to permit coordination of duties and participation in onsite meetings
