Position Overview
Shaw Industries is looking for Technical Managers to provide technical leadership and support for Plant RP. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to: process start-up, process improvement, improvements, raw material management and evaluation, quality improvement, and new product development. The role will focus on process, specifically extrusion, calendering, lamination, and vinyl formulating for resilient product platforms. This position will report to the Technical Director for Hard Surface Manufacturing.
This position can be filled as a Level II, III or IV based on knowledge/experience/skill.

Responsibilities
Improve the quality, throughput, and cost of the product by providing technical direction and leading process improvements.
Develop concepts, design, and economics into viable capital projects and product launches.
Organize trials in the plant for both raw material and process changes. Work closely with the team on compounding and extrusion processes.
Establish lab to line process parameters
Provide input to lab on material and formulation performance
Work on quality consistency of all products.
Work with manufacturing and peers on the technical team to standardize methods and improvements.
Work with the Quality Manager to establish specifications used to monitor the quality of products.
Research and develop new technologies and equipment that can be applied to the process to further optimize the performance and manufacturing of our products.
Work with production supervision to manage and continually improve the performance of process technicians and setup persons.
Define the processes and production parameters for all manufacturing steps that impact finished product. Adapt these as necessary for new products, new technology, and new materials.
Serve as a technical expert in all environmental and safety issues affected by the manufacturing process.
Maintain current knowledge of technical developments in product performance, materials of construction, and standards in the area of resilient flooring.
Focus strategic attention to process enhancements, applications, and equipment improvements.
Provide coaching and development for Plant RP staff related to technical focus areas.
Communicate technical data/concepts to applicable production staff.
Assist in proposing process options and determining optimal application.
Participate in and lead project meetings.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a technical/operations field
5+ years of manufacturing, innovation, business, technical, engineering, or equivalent experience
Ability to travel (primarily domestically) - 15%
