Main Purpose of Job

Maryland Department of Health (MDH) Payroll Coordinators are primarily responsible for processing time and gross payroll for approximately 8200 regular and 2100 contractual MDH employees.

The main purpose of this full-time position will be to function as a subject matter expert to all 14 Headquarters programs, 11 health care facilities, and 23 Local Health Departments within MDH. This position will navigate through the automated Workday system to audit, investigate, analyze and resolve MDH employees' payroll and leave issues. This position will also audit and adjust time sheets and interpret reports to ensure correct pay to employees, while meeting all deadlines and time constraints for Workday and Central Payroll Bureau.

In addition, MDH Payroll Coordinators will be required to practice with a high degree of confidentiality due to the exposure to personal identifying information, personal health information, employment records, social security numbers, addresses, health benefit information, medical documentation, disciplinary actions, payroll information, as well as retirement information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Experience using Microsoft Excel

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
