SOME (So Others Might Eat) exists to help homeless and poor individuals and families in Washington, DC. Our more than 30 programs throughout the district provide comprehensive services that lead to mental and physical health, continued sobriety, job training, living-wage employment, and affordable housing. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

Compensation: We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The salary range for this position is $86,507.00 to $101,649.00 and may be commensurate with experience.

SOME (So Others Might Eat) is seeking a Manager, Individual Philanthropy to support our Development Team at our 60 O Street location in NE Washington, DC.

Position Description: The Manager, Individual Philanthropy is responsible for managing a portfolio of 100 to 150 donors and prospects; securing major and principal gifts in support of SOME's annual giving and Capital Campaign priorities. This role focuses on identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding relationships with individual donors to meet fundraising goals and support the organization's mission and programs In collaboration with the Individual Philanthropy Team, the Manager, Individual Philanthropy will implement strategies to identify, retain, and upgrade major gifts prospects as well as expand mid-tier and planned giving pipelines.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm (40 hours per week); Hybrid/Telework Eligible.

Required: Bachelor’s Degree and three to five years of experience with major gifts ($10,000 and more) for a 501(c)(3) human services provider or similar organization OR ten years of major gifts experience, in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree. A passion and commitment to SOME's mission; Competency with Microsoft Office and proficiency with using donor database or CRM to track and monitor a portfolio.

Preferred: Capital Campaign experience or experiencing managing multi-year commitments, strongly preferred. Experience with EveryAction. Graduate degree, CFRE, CAP, or relevant professional certificate or training highly regarded.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to manage a portfolio of 100 to 150 major gift donors and prospects.

Proven track record of closing major gifts and stewarding donor relationships.

Demonstrated knowledge of the day to day functions of moves management.

Knowledge of fundraising best practices and principles.

A professional demeanor and good judgment when interacting with SOME’s staff and leadership team, high net worth prospective donors, and key stakeholders.

A high level of accountability, self-motivation, and ability to work collaboratively and with confidentiality.

Strong communication skills and ability to write effectively.

Expected Contributions: Fundraising

Manage a portfolio of major donors (10,000 to $15,000) qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding gifts

Manage planned giving process in collaboration with gift officers for timely acknowledgement and stewardship of planned gifts

Monitor incoming Donor Advised Fund (DAF) and Stock gifts to ensure accurate source coding

Work with Individual Philanthropy team and key stakeholders staff to meet or exceed dollar and visit goals, with a focus on securing new multiyear gifts in support of a capital campaigns.

Develop, execute, evaluate, and refine strategies to connect donors with the SOME’s priorities.

Prepare and manage donor research profiles for internal donor briefs with Gift Officer’s & Executive staff

Acquire and maintain a thorough and accurate understanding of SOME's mission, strategic plan, key programs, and funding priorities.

Effectively communicate SOME's priorities and successfully match donors' philanthropic interests to funding priorities.

Contribute to and review written materials, including individual donor strategies, briefings, solicitations, and acknowledgments in a quality consistent with SOME’s development communication standards.

Utilize and update SOME’s donor database or CRM by recording activities, contacts, gift proposals, and strategies on an ongoing basis consistent with current policies

Development & Administrative Support

Manage and create standard operating procedures for Individual Philanthropy

Provide team support for donor tours and events

Provide writing and editing support as needed Assist with accurate record keeping and entering data into EveryAction and other databases

Answer dedicated monetary donations line and return all voicemails

Assist in managing general SOME email inbox

Copy, scan, and collate materials as requested

Manage the Planned Giving Portfolio
