Position Summary:

The Rail and Export Logistics Coordinator manages the supply of rail equipment, the delivery of rail shipments to customers, and export documentation. This role works in coordination with each Collins facility and provides support to Sales and other Logistics Coordinators.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

Manage rail car orders and shipments to ensure adequate supply and timely delivery.

Provide customer service and respond to inquiries or complaints regarding rail transportation services.

Monitor and track rail service and shipments and report on performance.

Maintain and negotiate rail freight rates and fuel surcharges. Receive Logistics Manager approval for negotiated rates.

Monitor rail tariffs for updates and implement changes.

Define rail routes for optimal service and cost.

Manage demurrage and dispute freight bills as needed.

Provide backup support for sales and truck logistics.

Manage the documentation of exported product by:

Coordinating with Export sales and shipping to ensure compliance with customer orders.

Working with freight forwarders as needed to ensure documentation accuracy.

Preparing, acquiring, and distributing necessary export documents.

Processing export invoicing and monitoring payments.

Perform additional duties as required by supervisor.

On-site attendance is essential to effectively perform the listed duties and responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working directly with railroads / car supply, rail rates and routes.

Understanding of rail operations and negotiating rates

Experience with export documentation and understanding of container shipping.

Ability to plan and adapt as priorities and issues change.

Required Skills and Abilities:

Strong attention to detail with strong problem-solving skills, a high degree of accuracy and efficiency

Ability to think logically and analytically, under quick timelines to meet the needs of the organization

Dedication to internal & external customer service, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Capacity to work independently, amid a fast-paced team environment with a high level of multi-tasking

Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite.

Excellent time-management and organizational skills.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in business equivalent work experience.

Minimum of two years of experience in transportation or logistics. Export and railroad experience preferred.

Experience utilizing inventory management software preferred.

Background in lumber products preferred.

Knowledge of rail carrier systems or LumberTrack preferred.
